She earned a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Northwestern University and a master’s in environmental engineering from the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana. She has been a valued member of the firm since 1994, serving as a project manager until 2013, when she stepped into her discipline manager role.
As an environmental discipline manager, Mary provides facilities with regulatory assistance for air permitting, wastewater management, and hazardous substance compliance. She has developed a reputation for approaching projects with dedication, level-headedness, and an analytical process.
“Mary excels at positioning clients to meet permit requirements and always does what’s best for them.”
– Brian Till, Group Leader
Mary’s passion for environmental engineering came to the forefront during the Love Canal tragedy in the 1970s. This disaster occurred when a neighborhood was built on a former chemical waste dump, where over 21,000 tons of toxic chemicals had been improperly disposed of, leading to severe health issues in the community. This event spurred the passage of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), also known as the Superfund Act. Since then, Mary has been driven to prevent toxic chemical harm to communities.
Mary’s commitment to her community shines through her 30 years of service with the Federation of Environmental Technologists (FET), where she has held leadership roles including president and vice president. She currently serves as a board member and has led the scholarship committee, raising funds for Wisconsin students pursuing environmental careers. In 2018, Mary received the President’s Award from FET in recognition of her leadership.
In the office, on the jobsite, and in her community, Mary has built a legacy of integrity, kindness, and a commitment to sustainable practices that benefit the industry and the broader community. We are proud to celebrate her recognition as one of BizTimes Media’s 2025 Notable Women in Construction, Design, and Engineering. Congratulations, Mary!
