We’re excited to share that Mead & Hunt was recently awarded and Engineering Excellence Honor Award from ACEC/MW for our work with JMT and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) on the design of the M Street SE Corridor Safety Project! This is the fourth consecutive DDOT-Mead & Hunt-JMT collaboration to win an ACEC/MW Honor Award.
Our team was tasked with the design of this project which focused on implementing numerous safety improvements on M Street SE in Washington, DC. Improvements included reducing the number of general-purpose travel lanes, enhancing bus operations through the installation of in-lane bus stops and consolidation of bus stops, and the installation of a two-way protected bicycle lane. Notably, this project implemented a shared bike/bus boarding platform for a two-way cycle track, the first of its kind in DC. This project demonstrates DDOT’s commitment to its Vision Zero and sustainable transportation initiatives.
