Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) sits in the heart of downtown Denver. The university has served graduate and undergraduate students since its founding in 1965.
Sustainability and environmentally sustainable practices are central to MSU Denver. Our work with the MSU Denver identified top sustainability and energy efficiency goals and the associated strategies to achieve those goals. We used those strategies and goals to develop a five-year actionable strategic energy and sustainability management plan with quarterly and annual steps to follow. The plan involved:
- Researching comparable university performance targets
- Energy benchmarking
- Facilitating strategic workshops with key stakeholders
- Recommissioning and energy audits of select university facilities
- Identification of electrification alternatives
- Identification of grant and funding sources
- Sizing for photovoltaic solar energy systems
- Facilitation and development of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) sustainable schools initial scorecard
