Buffalo County, Wisconsin recently opened its Winona Connector Bridge, which is part of a pedestrian trail that allows non-motorized traffic to easily cross state lines.
The Winona Connector Bridge links Buffalo County and the Great River Trail to Winona, Minnesota. This is the first step in a larger trail project that will create a multi-use trail through Buffalo County and Winona along the Mississippi River. In addition to recreational opportunities, the trail is intended to support economic development and create travel options for commuters.
Mead & Hunt provided construction administration and inspection duties for this $3.1 million project, which involved constructing 1.5 miles of pedestrian trail across the Mississippi River. The trail includes two steel truss bridges, one of which spans over a railroad.
Construction Engineer, Jay Wheaton says, “It is exciting to be part of this project that bridges state borders. Our team thanks Buffalo County, the City of Winona, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for their hard work on this project.”
