Memorial Union Reinvestment maintained the historic nature of the iconic 1928 building while modernizing the entire infrastructure with new technologies for generations to come. The Lakefront Terrace design includes expanded amenities whether one is studying for finals, enjoying a fresh meal from one of the new food venues, or just relaxing along the lake.
Limited floor-to-floor height and extremely shallow ceiling cavities required collaboration and coordination among architectural and engineering disciplines. Upgrades to the electrical and technology systems allow for greater connectivity and flexibility of connections. A new fire alarm and fire protection systems provided required life safety improvements. Plumbing design includes connections for new restrooms, multiple food service venues and the complex drainage of an underground loading dock.
Lighting design includes a building-wide programmable dimming control system, refurbishing and retrofitting of existing historic fixtures and custom chandeliers were designed to replicate existing historic sconces. A familiar, but rejuvenated facility, greets loyal union visitors.
