Nearly 4.5 miles of State Road (US) 176 from North Main Street to Nexton Parkway near Moncks Corner, SC is being widened from two to four lanes to accommodate rapid residential and commercial growth in the area. Mead & Hunt worked with Berkeley County and multiple stakeholders to design the project through an on-call contract.
Our team is coordinating with the South Carolina Department of Transportation and 11 different utility companies to relocate various utilities while avoiding the roadway improvements. In addition, we designed water and sewer relocations for approximately 4.5 miles throughout the corridor.
The design incorporated double left turns and exclusive right-turn-lanes at several improved intersections, a concrete median to separate travel lanes (two on each side) and provide access management, two box culvert replacements, and intersection improvements at major side roads.
Mead & Hunt has worked with Berkeley County every step of the way from survey, inspection, and conceptual design through final design. Our team is also providing construction oversight on the utility relocations.
