Towson, Maryland needed to provide enhanced bus service to connect residents and local businesses. Mead & Hunt worked with local officials and stakeholders to find a solution that would serve previously-underserved populations and support the local economy. The team completed a feasibility study including demographics, ridership, routing and cost to create the new routes, accounting for the needs of the community’s populations.
Coined the Towson Loop, these two new bus routes will provide free public transportation to several Towson locations. This will complement existing Maryland Transit Administration service and connect residents with surrounding major anchors, including medical centers, colleges and universities, as well as local shops and businesses. Ultimately, the Towson Loop will serve to bolster local businesses, enhance the local economy, as well as support previously-underserved populations within Towson, leading to a more equitable, inclusive environment for all. While other bus routes were being eliminated during the pandemic, Towson stayed the course and will roll out the new routes on October 12, 2021.
