The George Washington Memorial Parkway is a historic roadway along the banks of the Potomac River and part of a National Park. Increasing use of the Parkway for recreation led to an increase in crashes. Mead & Hunt completed a comprehensive assessment of traffic safety and traffic operations along an 11-mile segment of the Parkway. The project included 11 intersections and extensive traffic data collection, crash data analysis, field measurements of queues, speeds, gaps and delays, and observations of user behavior.
