The Selfridge Air National Guard Base needed to document the historic background of each historic aircraft maintenance facilities used by the 127th Maintenance Group, identify their character defining features, and develop an acceptable plan for the renovation and ongoing use of the facilities. Mead & Hunt inspected and assessed the existing buildings for adequacy, utility, and general condition. The resulting report assessed existing facilities for condition and adherence to current life safety codes, structural assessments, and a force protection review of Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) needs. Our team also facilitated a weeklong planning charrette with key personnel. The resulting plan achieved all project goals, creating a multi-year plan for renovation and preservation that maintains the historical significance of the structures while adapting them for modern use.
