Portland Army National Guard Base needed to consolidate two geographically separated gates into a single entry area into the base. Mead & Hunt designed the gate; a guard house and search canopy; and the requisite pavements. The new gate resides entirely within the long-term lease area and meets Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) needs.
Our team used creative design solutions to provide cost-savings as well as enhance sustainability. We prepared, conditioned, and reused subgrade that was part of the previous building/parking lot footprint. The design incorporated Low-Impact Development features for drainage, including vegetative stormwater swales. Mead & Hunt also completed a traffic study, and ultimately increased the number of lanes to/from the base, which improved traffic flow.
The project included repair and construction of 6,000 square yards (SY) of asphalt pavements, 15,000 SY of sidewalk, utilities, lighting, signage, striping, removal of perimeter fencing, and AT/FP devices.
