Deficient and congested sections of Interstate 71 decreased safety and limited traffic capacity. ODOT planned to address these areas through upgrades to over five miles of highway. Our team provided survey and design for the complete replacement of the pavement. We also addressed capacity and safety concerns with a design that widened the highway from two lanes to three, including the three mainline bridges along the route. To meet traffic maintenance goals during the project, we designed two traffic lanes to function in each direction through the project work zone. The new widened roadway with new signs, guardrail, drainage, and lighting enable smooth traffic flow and improved safety for travelers.
