Darlington County School District was faced with a decision: continue to maintain outdated facilities within large residence pockets in the school district or replace and refresh their inventory of facilities with the construction of three new elementary schools with 21st century learning environments.
In 2016, Darlington County voters approved the adoption of a one-cent sales tax referendum that would fund the construction of three new schools in Darlington, Lamar, and Hartsville. The $60 million dollar referendum allowed for each location to build an 80,000+ square-foot facility with associated multipurpose area, state-of-the-art media center, bus loop, and parent drop-off loop. Mead & Hunt provided construction services for the new schools, including International Code Council (ICC) Chapter One (1) Building Inspection(s), ICC Chapter Seventeen (17) Special Inspection(s), and construction materials testing and sampling.
