The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) planned bridge and roadway improvement projects to enhance safety and improve connectivity across this busy harbor in central Corpus Christi. TxDOT recognized the presence of many eligible historic resources, and sought a record of potential effects. Our historians completed a range of services for the proposed replacement of the National Register-eligible Harbor Bridge and related improvements to nearby freeways, approach bridges and interchanges. We prepared a Historic Resources Survey Report (HRSR) documenting and evaluating over 1,000 historic-age resources for National Register eligibility and project effects. On behalf of TxDOT, our team prepared an Individual Section 4(f) Evaluation for the Harbor Bridge and six nearby bridges. The value of these historic resources to the state and community led us to organize Section 106 consultation and other public involvement activities. We coordinated closely with TxDOT, the State Historic Preservation Officer and community representatives.
