The Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) is replacing their General Aviation Terminal (GAT) with a new 10,272 square-foot facility. Mead & Hunt designed the new two-story GAT, which includes a Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) area to screen international arrivals. Before designing the facility, our team developed a Concept Budget Report to provide the airport with multiple design options.
The GAT is being moved slightly north to alleviate drainage issues between the current site and the apron. The project will also provide the infrastructure necessary for the Roads and Grounds System and the Universal Communications (UNICOM) Station. Additional site improvements include parking, sidewalks, site lighting, utilities, and fencing. The project is currently under construction with an expected completion in late 2022.
