Innovation can sound like an abstract and even intimidating concept, but for Chloe Eckdale-Dudley, it’s practical and versatile. As a software engineering student and innovation intern on our Foresight + Innovation + Technology (FIT) team, Chloe spends her time learning from colleagues, asking questions, and using technology to solve everyday challenges.
We sat down together to talk about what innovation means to her, what she’s learned so far, and what she’s excited about next.
What does innovation mean to you?
To me, innovation means thinking about the future and how we can make people’s lives better through technology.
What insights have you gained during your internship experience?
I’ve learned that the best opportunities for innovation come from talking with people. When you listen to what others are experiencing day to day, you realize how many great ideas are already out there. Even if someone doesn’t know how to use the tools yet, they usually know what needs improvement, and then we work together to find the best solution.

How has innovation impacted our firm?
Innovation has had a big impact here because new ways of doing things keep people motivated and excited about their work. When others see how new tools and technology improve our processes, it can spark conversations like, “I have an idea, I just don’t know how to get started.” And I love taking those ideas and turning them into reality.
What have you found rewarding about your internship?
Many of my projects have focused on making tedious tasks easier and faster, so people can focus on the more meaningful aspects of their work.
What do you see on the horizon for innovation?
I see positive things ahead. With more collaboration and fresh ideas coming in through the FIT program, I’m excited to keep building new and useful tools. There’s a lot to look forward to if we focus on how technology can help people.
