The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) needed to replace the existing gymnasium/natatorium facility to support its community better. The new Bakke Recreation and Wellbeing Center adds square footage to incorporate eight basketball courts, a 25-yard recreational pool, an ice rink, an indoor track, a spin studio, golf simulation spaces, educational classrooms, administrative offices, a demonstration kitchen, four stories of fitness areas, a wellness suite with meeting and consultation spaces, and physical therapy suite.
Mead & Hunt provided electrical, lighting, fire alarm, technology, and security design services from early programming throughout closeout. The project required our team to collaborate and address electrical and lighting challenges, including ample electrical connectivity for various activities, from e-sports to different fitness spaces. The design approach allowed for discrete power distribution and future expansions without impacting occupants.
