The existing three-bay Field Maintenance Shop 12 needed to handle mine resistant, ambush protected vehicles and provide more space for up-armored vehicles. Our multidiscipline design team made sure the FMS 12 addition was a larger drive-thru work bay to protect personnel from the elements while they serviced the vehicles. Designs also altered the maintenance bay shop to include a new lubrication system and renovated the administrative offices.
In the addition, a 10-ton bridge crane accommodates the MRAPs in support of the changing mission, training tempo, personnel flow and makes for greater efficiency. The limited space available led to a creative design that carved out parking space within the secured perimeter and still respected varying skill level and turning radii for the vehicles. The successfully completed field maintenance shop met evolving needs while controlling costs and making use of existing facilities.
