Camp Atterbury needed to deploy 112 railcars daily instead of the existing railhead’s 40 daily to meet growing and future needs for quick Infantry Brigade Combat Team deployment. Our architecture and building engineers designed a deployment processing building, a rail operations building, and a scale house. The expanded railhead can deploy an Infantry Brigade Combat Team in three days.
The railhead expansion threatened to cause greater stream mitigation than desired, but our design reduced mitigation to only 1,000 linear feet of stream. This translated to two permits that satisfied regulatory requirements, but shaved nine months from the permit approval process.
