YIP Reconstruct Runway 5R/23L

The Willow Run Airport (YIP) is an FAR Part 139 cargo facility owned and operated by the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA). The Airport handles a significant amount of cargo traffic annually. Mead & Hunt was selected to provide design and construction administration services for the reconstruction of the Airport’s primary runway, used by B-747 aircraft. The project will install paved shoulders along with a new runway lighting system. As several FAA-owned navigational aids will be impacted, significant FAA coordination is required. The project cost is estimated at $30 million and will be phased over two years due to funding limitations.
