Mead & Hunt provided planning, engineering, and program management services for Maryland’s Purple Line Transit Project, supporting project development from initial planning through design coordination and implementation. Key services included ridership forecasting, existing conditions analysis, station area accessibility planning, transit-oriented development strategies, traffic engineering, and overall program management.
Our team collected and analyzed traffic data at key intersections along multiple corridor alignments between Bethesda and New Carrollton. Utility and right-of-way research supported the development of base mapping and design plans. Mead & Hunt also led station area planning for Riverdale Park, Beacon Heights, M-Squared, and College Park, evaluating pedestrian and bicycle access, identifying network gaps and barriers, and recommending safety and connectivity improvements. Additional analyses addressed redevelopment opportunities and implementation strategies.
Working closely with Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), the State Highway Administration (SHA), local jurisdictions, and other stakeholders, Mead & Hunt helped facilitate alignment and roadway design decisions, public outreach efforts, and project coordination. Program management services included design quality reviews, utility and railroad coordination, right-of-way support, and risk management. Our team also supported delivery of the Takoma Langley Transit Center, enhancing bus operations, accessibility, circulation, and rider safety.
