SCDC Shaw Industries Renovations and Improvements at Perry Correctional Institution

Shaw Industries Group, Inc., one of the world’s largest flooring manufactures, partnered with the South Carolina Department of Corrections to establish a state-of-the-art industrial production line facility on the campus of the Perry Correctional Institution in Pelzer, South Carolina. This partnership allows Shaw Industries Group to complete various phases of the hardwood flooring production and finishing processes while utilizing the skilled labor of the inmate population. Inmates fill various positions to assist, oversee, and manage production processes.

The project included the construction, renovation, and upfit of a 35,000+ square-foot production facility. Mead & Hunt provided construction services for the project, including International Code Council (ICC) Chapter One (1) Building Inspection(s), ICC Chapter Seventeen (17) Special Inspection(s), and construction materials testing and sampling.
