Existing US Army Corps of Engineers civil works facilities offer some of the best options for adding hydropower. As part of an integrated project delivery contract, we provided a full range of engineering services to support the development of a six-megawatt hydroelectric development at Mahoning Creek Dam from conception through construction. We overcame challenges involving financing and regulatory approvals, existing operational impacts, political perceptions and safety.
As part of our design, we performed comprehensive value engineering to develop options to reduce the overall project cost. We provided technical review and bid assistance for the equipment procurement contracts. Our engineering services during construction and commissioning delivered a completed project that was online five days prior to the federally required deadline, securing the federal funding that offset project costs.
