When the Condit Hydroelectric Project was ready for decommissioning, there was real potential for an adverse effect on the Condit Dam and several archeological sites nearby. These historical concerns, coupled with required federal permits, called for compliance with Section 106 regulations. We prepared a plan to reduce adverse effects to historic properties during the decommissioning.
Before the lake was drained and the concrete dam was removed, we determined what steps were required to complete the consultation process under Section 106. We then prepared an Historic Property Management Plan that described project activities and identified historic, archeological and traditional cultural properties. Our recommendations were accepted by the Washington State Historic Preservation Office.
