We collaborated with Random Lake, Wisconsin and our local consulting partner to develop a plan to address the aging infrastructure at Random Lake’s wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and anticipated changes to future Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) permit requirements. An extensive Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources facility planning process was used to develop the basis of design for the planned infrastructure improvements.
Among the adjustments, the WWTP is switching to conventional activated sludge and a suspended growth process from aging rotating biological contractors (RBCs) and a fixed-growth process. Additional WWTP infrastructure improvements include influent flow fine screening, grit removal, third primary clarifier for redundancy, three new aeration basins with tapered fine bubble diffusers, aeration blower equipment, belt filter press dewatering equipment, ultraviolet disinfection replacing chlorine, instrumentation and control, and emergency generator and electrical power system upgrades.
The improvements position Random Lake well to manage anticipated future needs for treatment capacity and future regulatory compliance.
