The use of natural stone, rustic woods, a fireplace and expansive windows maximizing breath-taking views sets the tone immediately upon entering the new terminal. Located near the legendary Sun Valley Resort, attention to detail is a core value of the regional architecture. Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN) requested a strong new vision to transform the existing passenger terminal into a facility that represents the area’s rich natural surroundings and active lifestyles. The client desired a strong focus on quality and efficient building systems.
As part of a federally mandated safety area improvement project, the existing terminal was modified to make the terminal more spacious and user-friendly. In addition, a new security checkpoint was added to meet current regulations. Resort mountain airports are unique in both clientele served and baggage processed. Convenience and amenities were drivers for all design decisions. The result is a passenger terminal, roughly double the size of the original that integrates architecture and art in a way that immediately places the passenger in Sun Valley. From drop-off to take off, the passenger process is seamless. Just as a resort experience should be.
