This distillery experienced ongoing issues with the reliability and quality of the plant’s compressed air system. New loads were gradually added, affecting critical control processes. The compressors and air dryers no longer provided the redundancy and maintainability the facility required for uninterrupted production. Our team performed a study of the existing compressed air distribution network to identify deficiencies. We developed recommendations for design modifications and equipment upgrades to improve reliability. Recommendations included installing new piping connections, pressure regulators, and flow measurement; connecting standalone “air islands” to the overall plant piping network to centralize the supply of air; and replacing unreliable and undersized compressed air production equipment with a new, efficient, fully redundant system.
