Mead & Hunt is proud to announce Jamie Bumgarner, PE, as our new Transportation Group Leader. With nearly 20 years at Mead & Hunt and over two decades of experience in transportation engineering, Jamie brings award-winning technical excellence, inspiring leadership, and a people-first mindset to this role.
A longtime industry advocate, Jamie has served as President and National Director of American Council of Engineering Companies – West Virginia (ACEC-WV). During his 17 years with the organization, he also served on the Transportation Committee, supporting alliances between member firms and transportation agencies to address industry challenges. That relationship-focused approach has guided his success at Mead & Hunt, where he’s expanded a small regional office into a thriving multi-state practice.
“Jamie brings out the best in people,” says Amy Squitieri, Chief Executive Officer. “He knows how to build strong teams and foster collaboration that leads to incredible results. We’re excited to see his vision continue to shape our Transportation Group’s reach and impact.”
Jamie’s path into transportation engineering began with a summer internship at the West Virginia Division of Highways, where he discovered his passion for roadway design. After starting his career as a full-time roadway designer, Jamie quickly distinguished himself and rose into leadership roles. Since joining Mead & Hunt in 2005, he has led impressive growth in our West Virginia transportation practice. Under his tenure, the West Virginia office expanded from three employees in 2008 to 48 in 2025, while the regional team grew from 24 to 80 professionals.
Jamie’s leadership centers on taking care of people and encouraging collaboration. He believes that when you support and invest in your team, they thrive—and success follows naturally. This approach extends beyond his own group, as he champions Mead & Hunt’s culture of working across teams to provide better service to clients and offer more opportunities for staff.
“I love this industry, especially the people,” Jamie shares. “Transportation is evolving fast with smart roads, autonomous vehicles, and 3D modeling. But our success will always come down to teams who genuinely care about each other and our communities. That’s what makes this work meaningful and why I’m passionate about leading our Transportation team.”
