Mead & Hunt’s innovative Vero Beach Landfill Gas-to-RNG Facility has been featured in BiogasWorld Magazine.
The Florida decarbonization project, completed in partnership with Nopetro Eco District, LLC, converts landfill gas from the Indian River County Landfill into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas (RNG). The facility began operations in July 2024 and produces approximately 1,000 SCFM of clean energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 30,000 metric tons of CO₂ annually—the equivalent to removing 4,300 passenger vehicles from the road each year.
Mead & Hunt served as the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partner, fast-tracking development to meet tight timelines and maximize financial benefits available under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The team’s strategic approach accelerated the project’s path to market while maintaining compliance with the IRA’s domestic content bonus credit, demonstrating how thoughtful engineering can unlock both environmental and economic value.
The facility serves as a model for how landfill gas can be converted from a waste product into a powerful greenhouse gas reduction solution, creating over 40 jobs and delivering meaningful local economic benefits while advancing the clean energy transition.
