We’re excited to share that the University of Wisconsin-Madison Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center replacement project has received a 2024 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Wisconsin Merit Award. This award recognizes remarkable work within a specialized field of design. For this project, Mead & Hunt provided electrical, lighting, fire alarm, technology, and security design services from early programming throughout closeout.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison needed to replace the existing gymnasium/natatorium facility to support its community better, as the existing facility was outdated and deteriorated mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology systems were close to their rated life expectancy. Additionally, the existing building was unable to accommodate ADA requirements. Our team collaborated and addressed the electrical and lighting challenges, including ample electrical connectivity for various activities like e-sports and various fitness spaces. The lighting design was paramount in creating a welcoming, inspiring, all-encompassing aesthetic throughout the facility.
This recognition is a testament to the dedication, expertise, and collaborative efforts of our team and partners. Congratulations to all involved!
