Mead & Hunt partnered with Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) to develop a multi-year program to relocate Runway 11/29, the primary commercial service runway, north of its current location. The program also includes seven new taxiway connectors and conversion of the existing runway to a taxiway. Additional elements include a new perimeter road, security and perimeter fencing, a powered gate, navigational aid (NAVAID) relocation, detention/water quality ponds, relocation of the Remote Transmitter/Receiver (RTR) facility, 27 ¼ Road relocation, and the acquisition of land from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). With relocating over five million cubic yards, coordinating with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and permitting utilities, water, and land are integral to the program. Mead & Hunt provides cost estimating, design, and construction administration through phased, federally funded bid packages.
Our work with the airport to provide reliable design and construction schedules with flexible bid packages has helped the program accelerate project funding and has bumped up the anticipated project completion date by two years.
