Faced with competing concerns from residents and small business owners regarding on-street parking in the downtown area, the City of Frederick engaged our transportation planning team to assess on-street parking needs for residents, visitors, and delivery vehicles. We documented current on-street parking supply and use, met with restaurateurs and shopkeepers to understand their delivery needs, and provided a series of design and regulatory changes to reassign the timing and location of commercial vehicles, convert transient parking spaces to parklets and add additional space for outdoor dining and shopping. We also identified areas for consolidated parcel delivery with Amazon Locker. Elements of the curbside management plan are being implemented by the City’s parking agency and the Downtown Frederick Partnership as part of the City’s response to COVID-19.
The parking infrastructure needs of our nation are shifting. By incorporating new trends into our deliverables, our team was able to provide a parking plan that will serve the current and future needs of the City.
