Due to population and economic growth, San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is one of the fastest growing medium-hub airports in the country. Mead & Hunt has played a critical role in SAT’s air service development efforts. Over the last three years, SAT has welcomed three new carriers, and a number of new and expanded flight options, including new nonstop service to key markets. SAT’s incumbent carriers have also increased capacity in various markets in response to robust economic growth.
Mead & Hunt’s ongoing air service development and retention efforts have continued to promote San Antonio as a key market for both leisure and business travelers. Efforts include a comprehensive True Visitation Study and creating a Demand Analyzer, both using cutting-edge GPS location-based data to identify and monitor passenger demand recovery.
Specifically, the SAT-Boston market was one of the top unserved markets in the U.S. Numerous discussions with JetBlue Airways, Boston’s largest carrier, continued over the years, and in April 2021, JetBlue officially announced its intention to enter the San Antonio market with service to Boston and New York. These needed additions will fill an air service void to the northeast with a carrier well-suited to capture key business travelers.
