This diversified energy company needed to expand its high-pressure renewable natural gas (RNG) truck unloading facility to accept an increasing RNG volume coming from farms throughout Wisconsin. Having served as Owner’s engineer for the initial system design and construction in 2018, our team seamlessly transitioned to the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor to deliver this turnkey expansion of the unloading (decanting) area. We designed and constructed the RNG unloading system processes, which included in-house fabrication of a glycol heating skid which warms the RNG and a RNG valve skid. The system controls RNG flow, temperature, and pressure while monitoring BTU, hydrogen sulfide (H2S), water (H2O), oxygen (O2), and carbon dioxide (CO2) content to maintain pipeline-quality RNG and meet interconnect requirements. Additionally, we provided an updated control system, tied in new piping, erected an equipment building, and installed two truck bays at each station. The project increased the RNG decanting/truck unloading facility capacity by 67%. A large farm sends a truck daily to unload, and five trucks can unload at one time into the 975-psi utility pipeline.
