This small village (less than 1,500 residents) wanted easier access for visitors with disabilities from its hilltop Veterans of Foreign Wars site to the East Twin River. Our engineering team designed a walkway that provides ADA accessibility and also opens the park area for greater community use.
The concrete trail includes several large retaining walls, trail lighting, handrails and a wooden observation deck, all built into the hillside without removing existing trees. This helped us achieve the client’s goal for amenities that are sensitive to the setting and environmental features. We helped the client win federal Recreational Trails Act funds and state stewardship Urban Rivers grant funds to pay for the project. Our team provided the necessary field survey and construction observation.
