Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) serves as the main gateway to both Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park and is the only commercial service airport located within a national park. This busy non hub air carrier and corporate and general aviation airport lies in an environmentally sensitive area where airport noise and aircraft overflight are critical community issues. To achieve harmony between the community and the airport, we completed a FAR Part 150 Study that led to a Use Agreement between the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service. The study and recommendations led to an access plan and a noise reduction program that successfully reduced noise levels both in the park and the surrounding area. Ongoing seasonal noise monitoring maintains the noise reduction program. Subsequent to the original Part 150 Study, we have prepared two updates further reducing noise intrusion to the park and residences. We are also preparing a wildlife hazard management plan for Jackson Hole Airport to minimize conflict between aircraft and wildlife.
