The Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA) needed to update their existing master plan due to population growth and economic expansion in the southeast region of metropolitan Phoenix. This included conducting a long‐range analysis and developing a plan to accommodate current and future aviation demand in a sustainable way.
Mead & Hunt developed a comprehensive master plan that provided the framework for guiding future airport development to meet aviation demand over the next 20 years. Key aspects of the plan included developing activity forecasts to identify demand in a multi-airport market; determining the life-expectancy of the existing terminal and supporting roadway infrastructure; incorporating the Mesa-SkyBridge partners cargo facilities for pre-clearance of goods to and from international destinations; creating a site plan for new aeronautical and non-aeronautical development, access and circulation roads, and revenue streams for a 700-acre development; and completing an analysis for extending Runway 12L/30R to 9,500’ and providing a new 28-gate linear pier terminal complex, supporting access roads, and vehicle parking. The master planning process also included creating a financial implementation plan in support of a realistic development plan, as well as an AGIS survey for developing a new Airport Layout Plan.
