Fort Collins Utilities’ new headquarters demonstrates that the city is prepared to “walk the talk” of energy efficiency, occupant health, and sustainability. The facility is truly net-zero energy ready, with a robust energy performance goal that informed all aspects of design and available technologies. A future geo-exchange system planned for the civic campus will result in zero net energy performance.
Ambient Energy, A Mead & Hunt Company, provided energy consulting from early design through value engineering and construction with multiple energy analysis iterations throughout.
Demonstrating the city’s leadership in envelope performance, the net-zero energy and LEED Platinum building has a measured infiltration rate 60% lower than allowed by code. Strategically placed high-tech windows provide ample natural daylight. Efficient lighting and HVAC with advanced controls and a 104-kW solar array with future energy storage contribute to performance.
