This global leader in mozzarella cheese and dairy nutrition products launched a greenfield production facility and needed our team to design and construct the wastewater treatment system to meet stringent permit requirements for direct surface water discharge while prioritizing compact footprint, flexible treatment process options, and energy-efficient operation. We delivered the greenfield wastewater treatment plant on an accelerated design-build schedule. The system included flow equalization with automatic high-strength waste diversion, a dissolved air flotation (DAF) unit, sequencing batch reactors (SBRs), aerobic treatment with fixed-film tertiary filtration, UV disinfection, and post-aeration. Solids are treated in an anaerobic digester.
Energy saving components included fine bubble aeration combined with multistage centrifugal blowers on variable frequency drives (VFDs), post-aeration using in-line injection with pure oxygen saturation, and solar-powered mixing in a non-compliant lagoon. Our system integration team provided customized programmable logic controller (PLC) applications, as well as a human-machine interface (HMI) for process control.
The manufacturer later requested an expansion, which we delivered along with a combined heat and power (CHP) system that converts the biogas produced by the anaerobic process to 480 kW of electricity and 0.042 MMBtu/day of heat.
