Flood-Risk Reduction: Codes, Design, and Construction

Join Doug Moseley, III, AICP, CFM, ENV SP for “Flood-Risk Reduction: Codes, Design, and Construction,” an interactive live webinar, on Tuesday, June 17, hosted by HalfMoon Education. This full-day event is designed to equip attendees with the latest knowledge and practical strategies for mitigating flood risks through effective design, construction, and code compliance.

Doug, a seasoned expert in floodplain management and sustainable infrastructure planning, will guide participants through a comprehensive curriculum that begins with an overview of flood types and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), including how to interpret Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and Flood Insurance Studies (FISs). He will then delve into the design and construction of flood-resistant buildings, highlighting key standards such as ASCE 24-14 and NFIP requirements. Additional sessions will explore advanced topics like erosion control, floodproofing techniques, and the integration of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in flood-prone areas. Attendees will also gain insights into the latest updates to the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard (FFRMS) and ASCE/SEI 24-24, ensuring they leave with actionable knowledge to enhance resilience in their projects.

What Attendees Can Expect to Learn

  • How to interpret and apply floodplain maps and regulations
  • Best practices for designing flood-resistant structures
