The Master Brewers Association of the Americas (MBAA) is a professional, scientific organization dedicated to advance, support, and encourage scientific research into brewing malt beverages and related industries. The MBAA makes this research available to the public through conferences, discussion groups, journals, publications, and seminars. MBAA is recognized as a leader in brewing education and technical information by leveraging the collective resources of the brewing community which offers continuous improvement to the processes and products of its members. The Master Brewers provides well-structured volunteerism and engagement from its members of the brewing industry at large.
The MBAA organizes courses, such as the Maintenance Systems Course and the Brewing and Malting Science Course, yearly to educate students on various brewery-related topics. Topics of the Maintenance Systems Course include: brewery safety, SOPs, supply water, pumps, chiller systems, steam, compressed air, CO2 systems, sanitation/CIP, wastewater, maintenance software, floors and drains, brewery automation, valves, and more.
Brewery Wastewater – Understanding What Goes Down Your Drain

Jeff VanVoorhis, Vice President of Project Development, will teach “Brewery Wastewater – Understanding What Goes Down Your Drain” for the MBAA Brewery Maintenance Systems Course the week of June 26, 2023. Jeff will provide a live Q&A via Zoom on Thursday, June 29, 2023, from 1 – 4 p.m. During this Q&A, students will engage with Jeff, an experienced project developer for brewery wastewater, to ask him real-life questions revolving around this topic as they prepare for their careers in the brewing industry.

This fall, Jeff VanVoorhis will teach “Brewery Wastewater – Real Issues for Any Size Brewery” for the MBAA Brewing and Malting Science Course in late-September through mid-November, 2023. Topics of the Brewing and Malting Science Course will include: life sciences for brewers (water, brewing microbiology, yeast), malting (malting barley, malt plant operations, malt analysis, specialty malts, flavor and aroma), hops (hop production, pellets, extracts, dry hopping), safety (cleaning & sanitizing, workplace health & safety, food safety), brewery (design & operations, automation, cellar operations, filtration, effluent management), wort (milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, aeration), sensory (flavor stability, beer sensory), and alternative beverages (seltzers, non-alcoholic, and cannabis in beer).
