Historic inventory lays groundwork for economic development
With hundreds of older industrial warehouses and factories in Milwaukee, rehabilitation provides a preservation option with an economic boost for the city. Assisting the Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Office Mead & Hunt’s Cultural Resources team identified industrial properties eligible for historic preservation tax credits. Historic preservation tax credits are an important incentive for developers to renovate the buildings for income-producing uses.
Our team developed a custom and innovative approach to record and evaluate nearly 1,000 industrial buildings according to the National Register of Historic Places Criteria for Evaluation. In addition to properties already recognized, we identified 39 buildings and two historic districts that met the criteria and are candidates to receive tax credits.
