I-85/I-385 rehabilitation construction underway

I-85-I-385-Body-300x225At $231 million, the I-85/I-385 Design-Build Interchange Rehabilitation project is the third-largest design-build project in South Carolina history. I’m happy to report that this major design project that Mead & Hunt helped design has begun construction and is receiving local attention as progress is made.

Once completed, this rehabilitation project will ease congestion, improve safety, allow interstate commerce to flow smoothly and increase the lifespan of South Carolina’s Upstate transportation network. As the interchange currently ranks #2 on the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s priority list of deficient interchanges, the rehabilitation will play a critical role for the citizens of both Greenville County and South Carolina.

The design aspect of this project required an “all hands on deck” approach to meet deliverables and their scheduled deadlines. Led by our team in Lexington, South Carolina, our firm pulled in professionals from our offices throughout the country, including Ohio, North Carolina, Minnesota, West Virginia and Wisconsin. These team members lent their time and expertise to provide quality review and design. The success of this coordination will provide additional safety for about 200,000 vehicles each day once the interchange construction is completed.
