Technically Based Local Limits by Design for BOD and Ammonia
Thursday, August 4 | 8:00 am
Presenter: Senior Project Manager Janet Sims
In 2004, EPA identified BOD5 and ammonia as parameters that should be evaluated by Industrial Pretreatment Programs to determine if local limits for these parameters should be established. The typical treatment plant performance approach is not appropriate for evaluating or developing local limits for BOD5 and ammonia. During this session, Janet Sims will present the design criteria and influent data that are needed to conduct an evaluation.
PFAS 101
Thursday, August 4 | 1:00 pm
Presenters: Senior Aviation Consultant Dean Mericas, PhD and Project Manager Heather Goins
PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, have quickly become a concern because of its potential to impact human health and the environment and its capacity to persist in the environment over a long period of time. The presentation will provide relevant information for pretreatment programs. The information includes the following topics:
- What PFAS chemicals are,
- The current research regarding risks of PFAS to human health and the environment,
- Current and upcoming regulations,
- Source identification
- Sampling and analytical challenges,
- Treatment technologies, and
- Case studies.
