The popular North Causeway boat ramp and parking facility needed improvements to better accommodate visitors and preserve the facility. The park attracts boaters who want to explore the Indian River, enjoy good fishing and stop at a popular “disappearing island.” When the tide goes down, this sandy island appears to delight boaters.
The engineering and design project consisted of seawall and sidewalk replacement, wood dock rehabilitation, sidewalk improvements and replacement of the restroom building. The new parking lot pavement with stormwater improvements requires less maintenance and protects the water quality. Acting as the owner’s agent we helped the City of New Smyrna Beach obtain a Florida Inland Navigation District grant funding for the project.
North Causeway, the second busiest boat launch in the county, provides free public access to the Indian River. It features three boat ramps with a short-term dock facility, a fishing pier, picnic pavilion and restroom facilities.
