First LEED certified dorm in Air National Guard system
The Michigan Air National Guard needed new troop quarters at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center. Our architects and engineers applied their deep military experience to design the new facility. The new quarters add more than 34,000 square feet, replacing six existing open bay barracks with a single dormitory. The new dorm contains 83 dorm rooms, a laundry facility, and a multipurpose room used for troop training or relaxation.
Our team’s sustainability experience and innovative approach helped the building earn a rating of LEED Gold and provided the troops with better indoor environmental quality. Outdoor sustainability measures help reduce storm water runoff and eliminate the need for supplemental irrigation for landscape. We strived to reduce the environmental impact of the project by minimizing construction on the site and planting native vegetation.
