Better than ever

It’s hard to believe we are in the final month of Fiscal Year 2016. As we put the finishing touches on another year of great work, I thought I’d give you a summary of how I see life at Mead & Hunt right now.

I think we are better than ever.

This isn’t just pride in the company talking; I am basing this claim on some real improvements that took place this year. I’ve talked about some of these before, but it bears repeating. I am probably missing some contributions, but let’s start with this list:

Better financially

We set a goal of having a reasonable profit on net revenue this fiscal year, and we are close. Ultimately, our numbers are among the best they have been in recent years.

Better at community giving

Thanks to this year’s program redesign, we are better organized and able to fund the opportunities that matter to employees. Mead & Hunt Cares is off to a good start; we awarded two grants to employees this past summer and will do so again at the end of the year. Employees are also taking part in other aspects of the program, such as the match for university donations and individual community service hours.

Better at innovation

I hope our employees are as excited as I am to see the new opportunities our team is exploring via our internal Creativity and Innovation Agency’s (CIA) grant program. We have several recent initiatives underway: the drone, the SPAR 300 survey tool, climate change research to offer leading-edge client service. In addition, the 3D printer and the drone are seeing action on projects these days.

Better at training

Our newly launched training program for project managers is getting rave reviews. This is exciting news especially because we are not using outside consultants for this program; instead, our experienced project managers are training less experienced project managers – mentoring at its best!

Better at safety

With an increased focus on safety issues at the company, we are working toward excellent statistics and healthy, happy employees. Our safety committee is meeting monthly and has made progress toward some initiatives.

Better at sustainability

We are currently formalizing a new version of a Corporate Sustainability Plan. This plan will help us document what we already do and make goals that align with our strategic initiatives.

  1. Your 2016 fiscal year looks to be very special. But such a year started with leadership in prior years with training, excellent work, and employees who cared about Mead’s client. That is what is the foundation for 2016 and years to come.

    Nice going!

  2. Congratulations to my good friend Raj, and all the fine and talented people at Mead & Hunt on a fantastic 2016. May 2017 bring you greater successes!
